Blanka Exhibitions
Blanka, an online outlet for original, vintage and limited edition posters and prints, invited 28 renowned designers to each produce an A2, black and white poster representing one of a list of 28 essential design terms compiled by Blanka’s founder, Mark Blamire. An exhibition of the work, ‘1: An exhibition in mono', launched during London Design Festival at SEA Gallery in 2006 and Image Now hosted the show in November of that year.
Image Now’s poster, Measure, represents the famous meeting of Muhammad Ali and George Foreman. In Kinshasa, Zaire on October 30th, 1974 Muhammad Ali fought the reigning heavyweight champion George Foreman for Championship of the World. The fight, billed as ‘The Rumble in the Jungle’, produced one of boxing’s most astonishing contests. Ali, regarded by all as the rank underdog, was attempting to regain the title that had been stripped from him for his refusal to fight in the Vietnam War. This graphic charts the extraordinary events that unfolded in the ring that night and illustrates, blow for blow, the fight’s progress to its knockout finale. Each round is illustrated by a 180° arc, one degree is equal to one second of a three minute round. Every connecting punch is mapped at precisely the moment of contact, Ali's are represented by the dashed line, Foreman's by the solid.
